Impression Technologies has developed innovative aluminium forming technologies based on IP developed at Imperial College London by Prof. Lin.

Prof. Lin’s ‘HFQ’ (Hot Form Quench) process provides a cost-competitive means of producing lightweight, complex and structured aluminium components for the aerospace, automotive and rail industries. It allows pressings to be formed which are lighter, deeper and with tighter radii than has previously been possible.

Impression’s process allows aluminium components to be produced in presses, rather than through milling or other costly processes.

The use of aluminium for components is attractive to various industries as they have comparable strength and properties to steel but are significantly more lightweight, providing advantages in weight and fuel efficiency, for example, in the automotive industry.
